Qualifying for Service
Because we are a charitable pharmacy, offering free medication to those in need, all patients at SVdP Pharmacy must meet the following criteria to qualify.
- Must reside in the state of Texas
- Must have annual household income below 2x the Federal Poverty Level for your family size
- Must have a valid prescription from a doctor (a paper copy or one on file at another pharmacy)

Why SVdP (Free) Pharmacy?
Over 700,000 in our North Texas community have no health insurance coverage, and 38% of families live with household incomes below 200% of the Federal Poverty Level. Many people are unable to afford health-sustaining prescription medications like asthma inhalers, blood pressure medicine and insulin, due to the high out-of-pocket costs. Many of those we serve often have to choose between food and medical care*, and our neighbors in need are significantly less likely to seek treatment for chronic diseases that are treatable with prescription, maintenance medication**.
For many, the difference between constant, dangerous trips to the emergency room and sustained, improved health is access to affordable prescription medication. Our sister pharmacy in Cincinnati, OH cited that for their patients who had diabetes, their risk of heart attack and stroke decreased by 40% after receiving access to free medication for diabetes management. Over a 6-month period, those who took their medications as directed (82%), decreased their number of hospital emergency room visits by nearly 30%.
For many of our neighbors, sustainable health means they can keep working and not risk losing their jobs. It means being able to pay rent and afford groceries each month. It means fewer trips to the emergency room and a longer, happier life!

Pharmacy Volunteers Needed!
The first and most important part of serving patients at SVdP Pharmacy involves screening visitors to qualify them for service, and assisting them with completing their applications. Due to the high volume of need, we greatly need intake volunteers who can answer questions for pharmacy visitors and help staff process paperwork. Intake volunteers do not need to be licensed, and must only complete the easy, online training.

The pharmacy also needs certified pharmacists and pharmacy technicians to dispense medications. Certification must be current.
